De verpleegafdeling van het bejaardenhuis Weijtendaal in Wijhe is gesloten voor bezoek door aanwezigheid van het Norovirus. Volgens een woordvoerder is het virus aan het begin van deze week geconstateerd. Het virus heeft zowel cliënten als medewerkers getroffen. Hoeveel patiënten en medewerkers er besmet zijn, is niet bekend gemaakt. Het virus is wel op retour en wordt er samengewerkt met GGD en een microbiologisch laboratorium om het virus verder terug te dringen.
Bezoekers van de verzorgingsafdeling van het Weijtendaal krijgen instructies van het personeel hoe ze met het virus moeten omgaan. Het Norovirus is zeer besmettelijk en kan een voedselinfectie veroorzaken. De meeste besmettingen gaan van mens op mens. Het norovirus openbaart zich door misselijkheid, braken en diarree. Het braken is vaak heftig, en kan heel plotseling optreden. Ook koorts, hoofdpijn, buikpijn en buikkramp komen voor.
